Some DNA fragments are well conserved within a species and variable between species. These are the genetic markers or barcodes.
DNA METABARCODING = Next generation sequencing technology (NGS)
DNA metabarcoding is a barcoding extension using the NGS technology. It allows to identify blindly every species present in the sample.
Two types of markers
– The “universal” markers allow to do botanical identification blindly on any sample.
– The specific markers created for a particular family or genus.
These markers allow a very precise attribution for the species, even until the sub species of interest
Barcoding and Metabarcoding techniques are used daily by the team at DNA Gensee, feel free to contact us for more information.
